INFORMATION ABOUT COOKIES

Following the entry into force of the amendment to the Spanish Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce Act (LSSICE) introduced by Royal Decree 13/2012, all websites using non-essential cookies must obtain the user’s express consent before the user browses them.

WHAT ARE COOKIES?

Cookies and similar technologies, such as local shared objects, Flash cookies or pixels, are tools used by web servers to store and retrieve information about visitors and to ensure that websites function correctly. These tools allow the web server to remember certain information about users, such as their page display preferences, username and password, or products of particular interest to them.

COOKIES COVERED BY THE RULES AND EXEMPT COOKIES

Under the EU directive, analytics, advertising and affiliate cookies require the user’s informed consent. Technical cookies and those necessary for the website to operate or to provide services expressly requested by the user are exempt.

WHAT TYPES OF COOKIES ARE THERE?

There are five main groups:

  • Analytics cookies: collect information about use of the website.
  • Social cookies: are required for external social networks.
  • Affiliate cookies: track visits from other websites with which the website has an affiliate agreement.
  • Advertising and behavioural cookies: collect information about the user’s personal preferences and choices for retargeting.
  • Technical and functional cookies: are strictly necessary to use the website and provide the contracted service.
